Phoenix, Arizona offers a
contrast to Chicago. While Chicago is still reeling under its cold weather even
in the end of April 2014 and is battered by intermittent rains, Phoenix, in the middle
of the desert State, is readying to receive the hot summer. The last Saturday
and Sunday were bright, sunny and but exceptionally cool, the breeze never allowing
the heat to rise. Overall, the weather was terrific. Result: we drove straight
to the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix in the evening.

The cost of entry ticket was a
rude shock. 22 dollars for an adult with 10 percent discount for seniors and 12
dollars for children. We were three adults and two children. The lady near the
reception quickly en-cashed our predicament, by promptly promoting the sale of a membership card
for 90 dollars, for two adult members, for a year, two free passes plus free
admission for the children. We were readily sold out on the membership plan; of
course, it made more sense to be a member and make multiple visits to the park
than to pay 78 dollars for that day’s one time visit of ours.
Inside, we got the opportunity to
see some of the rarest and finest cactus varieties. Here are some of the

When we came out, it was already
dark and we couldn’t visit the ‘Hole in the Rock,’ which was just adjacent. May
be, another day; yet another opportunity to put up pictures in my blog!
