CLASSIC SINGER TENKASI 2013-14: Singing Competition in Tenkasi, Tirunelveli District, Tamil Nadu was a pioneering effort by our L.N.Charitable Trust, Melagaram, Tenkasi and was received well.
What thought of as a small effort, received its big bang when more than 250 students of Class 6,7 and 8 from all schools within Tenkasi Education District took part in the first selection round in November, 2013. After five selection rounds, we selected 24 students to contest in the Quarter Finals held on 29th December, 2013. 16 of them moved to Semi Finals held on 4th January, 2014. Eight qualified to contest in the Finals held on Saturday, the 11th January, 2014.
The winners were:
First: Master H.Balasubramanian, Bharath Montessori Matric.Higher Secondary School, Ilanji
Second: Miss.Parameswari, S.R.M. Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Shencottai
Third: Master Harish from Bharath Montessori Matric Higher Secondary School, Ilanji.
The winner was awarded the title: CLASSIC SINGER TENKASI 2014 besides a cash prize of Rs.10000. The first and second runner-ups received cash awards of Rs.5000 and Rs.2000 respectively.
The highlight of the finals was the presence of Smt.Dr.Latha Varma, Principal, Sri Sathguru College of Music, Madurai and the internationally acclaimed carnatic music vocalists and violinists Sow. Akkarai S.Subhalakshmi and Akkarai S.Sornalatha. We thank them for their presence and support.
The remaining following five contestants received a consolation award of Rs.500 each:
